We don’t just use football to help pupils reach their sporting potential but also progress in their academic studies too. One area where we’ve made a big impact is using football to support pupils struggling with their numeracy and literacy.

Millions of words are written and spoken about football across the world every day. We help pupils develop their literacy skills through writing inspiring half-time team talks or by being the manager and taking part in a mock press conference. Football match statistics, fantasy football line-ups and our matchday programmes are all used to help them learn and develop.

Sessions usually form part of a six or ten-week programme and can take place in schools, often with small groups in need of additional support or classes can use our training ground or stadium facility. Groups are rewarded with a tour of the stadium to recognise the effort and progress they’ve made.

We partner the Premier League Primary Stars project which seeks to enhance PE delivery staff skill and confidence in delivering school sport as well encouraging pupils to grow up enjoying sport. Schools can download lots of great resources free of charge at PLPremierstars.com.
