Joy of Moving Home School Festival 18th to 22nd May

On International Day of Families, Luton Town FC Community Trust is partnering with EFL Trust and Ferrero to launch the ‘Joy of Moving Home School Festival’, a full afternoon of home school activities and games to get children and their families moving and having fun.

Following the launch of the new online Joy of Moving Resource Hub, the Home School Festival will involve 72 other EFL Trust network Club Community Organisations and at a time when children are unlikely to experience the fun of their school sports day this year or missing playtime with their friends, will offer children and families an afternoon of movement and fun with different games and activities to choose from.

The Joy of Moving programme, a Ferrero CSR project, has been supporting Year 5 children across EFL Communities in the UK for the past 6 years. The Joy of Moving programme has consisted of two elements; the Move & Learn programme and Joy of Moving Festivals. Over 310,000 children have been introduced to moving and learning new skills all while having fun and playing.

Mike Evans, Chief Executive at EFL Trust said;

We are delighted to bring the Joy of Moving Home School Festival to thousands of households across the UK. So many children will miss out on their Sports Day and our festival should offer fun whilst also keeping children active during these times. Our network of Club Community Organisations have been doing some amazing work in response to Coronavirus, and this is another way in which football is supporting the community and reaching families in all regions of the country.

Dean Pymble, the Foundation's Primary Stars Coordinator said;

It’s fantastic to be involved in the EFL joy of moving home school festival. It’s essential that children stay physically active during lockdown to help both their mental and physical health. The home school festival provides fun games and activities to support healthy and active lives, whilst continuing to follow government guidelines.

What is the Joy of Moving Programme?

Joy of Moving is designed to inspire active lifestyles in primary school children through play whilst developing key skills in four major areas; Physical fitness, motor coordination, cognitive functions and creativity and life skills.

Joy of Moving moves online to support families

Now, in very challenging times,we have moved the programme that is usually delivered by coaches in schools to online so that more families and age groups can benefit from the fun games and we've made sure that the games can be done in a small space too.
We understand that many parents and families are struggling at the moment to keep their children engaged during Homeschooling during the lock down which can be challenging.
In response to feedback we have now created a website and resource hub for the Joy of Moving which contains ideas to get children to move and be active but with play and fun activities that are designed for children and families to do at home or in the garden as part of their daily activity.

The Joy of Moving Home School Festival

The Joy of Moving Home School Festival consists of a flexible up to three-hour timetable of activities on the theme of active healthy lifestyles. It is designed to be to be active and include group or individual led options.
It is aimed at Key Stage Two children and we hope to get as many involved in your school as possible.
We recognise that children may miss out on a traditional sports day and activity day this year. So schools up and down the country will be participating in getting children active through The Joy of Moving Home School
It will happen during the week 18th to 22nd May Schools are free to choose which afternoon children should take part.
Hundreds of schools will be taking part across England, Wales and the resources are available as a digital file to be sent by schools to families The file includes sections which can be printed at home if possible. If you know children have no access to IT at home we ask that you print and post sections to them or we will post them here.
Children will be invited to ask parents to post photographs and video clips on social media but this is entirely your choice
There is also a competition element in the pack where three families can win £500 worth of sports equipment for their local schools.

Every day our coaches deliver PE lessons to hundreds or pupils across Luton and Bedfordshire.
EasyJet Free School Visits

With support from Easyjet our Free School Visit Project and School Sport Programme is designed to provide primary schools with support in improving the provision of PE and sport and physical activities, both during curriculum and extra-curriculum time.
PL Primary Stars - Literacy & Numeracy Double Clubs

We don’t just use football to help pupils reach their sporting potential but also progress in their academic studies too. One area where we’ve made a big impact is using football to support pupils struggling with their numeracy and literacy.
Community Adult Learning

The Trust deliver a series of projects based around community learning which seeks to bring unemployed and unqualified residents of Luton closer to the workplace through either volunteering opportunities or part time work.
Pupil Intervention Support

The Community Trust have teamed up with the Avenue Centre for Education (ACE) in Luton to provide our seven-week intervention programme for Luton High School boys and girls who are either at risk of, or are already, excluded from mainstream schooling and at risk of further being involved in anti-social behaviour.
